- Non GW models as well as scratch built models are both welcome and allowed in the tournament(s).  However, no proxy of model will be allowed in the event. 40K Individual Challenge
$75.00 per entry

Event Format
- Each player is expected to construct an army list that is 1750 pts or less by the according 40,000 army codex.  Only 1 Force Organization Chart is allowed per list which limits the ally selection and fortification selection to 1 respectively.  (Tyranid players may have a single ally detachment chosen from the Tyranid codex for their army lists)  Each player is expected to have 5 army lists for the event, one to hand out to each of his opponents.
- The players will participate in a 5 round, 2 day Grand Tournament under a modified Swiss pairing.  Aside from the first round, the players will be matched based upon their total battle points (BPs) where the highest BP holder will be paired to the next highest BP holder.

- We will make our best attempt to not match players from the same area in the first couple rounds.  Though sometimes we might still receive technical issues and I highly advise our players to notify the TO or the event staff as soon as possible.

- On the off chance of an odd match up, the player will be given an offer of a "Bye" for the round.  The "Bye" receives 10BP and count as a win but a loss during final tie breaking.  A player may opt to play for his "Bye" if a ringer is present to receive potentially more BP, but will receive a loss instead of a win if he loses.  He will, however, receive 10BP still for losing a "Bye" match.
- Terrain is preset and each assigned a specific terrain value (TV).  They are as follows:

1 TV – No markings
2 TV – Red
3 TV – Yellow
4 TV – Green
5 TV – Blue

-  Fortifications.  After a player had chosen side, he is to remove the amount of TV in his half side of the board (not deployment zone) equaling to the following scale then places his selected fortification.  Please restore the terrain to its original starting position after the match is over.

Aegis Defense Line – 2 TV
Bastion – 3 TV
Valkyrie Landing Pad – 4 TV
Fortress of Redemption – 5 TV

-  Mysterious Objectives are not used unless specified in the mission.
- Warlord’s Trait: If the player's codex does not have warlord's trait included in them, then he may roll D6 then choose the table of traits available in the BRB.  The player must otherwise choose a warlord trait from either his codex for the BRB then roll the D6.

- TSHFT ranking.  This event will endorse all players with an existing TSHFT ranking and assign a new one to any players who is new to the events.  The final prizes will be determined on the ranking of the qualified players.

Missions

These are all chosen from the 40K Main Rulebook:
Crusade, Purge The Alien, Big Gun Never Tire, The Scouring, The Emperor’s Will, Relic

Primary Objective / Secondary Objective (updated March, 2013)

TSHFT 40K has since adopt the duo mission set up for each of its tournament rounds.   One of the book mission will be used for Primary Objective and the other one for secondary objective.  To avoid confusion and to better utilize the book secondary objectives, VPs earned from the 3 secondary objectives from the BRB will be counted towards the secondary objective (not the primary).

Tertiary Objectives

These are announced 30 minutes into each round (or printed on the scoring sheet if timing is a concern), completing them will earn the player either 1 BP or 2 BP (if the objective does not indicate number, it is assumed the maximum amount of 2 BP).

Crippling Blow – destroys all selections from 1 FOC choice.
Iron Gut – Each HS survived in opponent's deployment zone is worth 1 BP.
Mismatch – EL choice gets 1 BP for each TP destroyed (or sent running off the table).
Overrun – Every 2 surviving TP is worth 1 BP.
Perilous Sky – Having more FA choice survived.
Rampage – Your Warlords killed more units than the opposing warlord's.
* Dedicated transports neither count towards nor against any of the tertiary objectives.

Scoring

The individual tournament consists of the following three criteria for scoring: Battle, Paint, and Sportsmanship.

Battle Points (BP) [100 max]

This reflects the player's tactical performance in the tournament.  There are 22 possible BP per round but a player may only claim a max of 20 BP per round.  A more detailed BP break down per round is as follows:

Primary Objective [14]
Win = 14
Draw = 9
Loss = 6

Secondary Objectives [6]

Tertiary Objectives [2]

Paint Points (PP) [50 max]

This reflects the player's dedication to the hobby in the field of painting, converting, and/or crafting.  There are a total of 50 PP scored for each player.  A more detailed PP break down is as follows:

40 PP scored by the TO or paint judges:

 Completion   30%    70% 100% SP SP
 Scenic Basing / VH Weathering 222 2 2
 Cohesive Scheme 222 2 2
 Conversion 22 2 2
 Technique 22 2 2

Scenic Basing / VH Weathering
2 points awarded for each level % of completion for the player's army which are scenic based (or weathered if for vehicles).
Special: 2 points for painted objective/narrative display.  2 more points awarded for well presented display board (not just a folding tray, please)

Cohesive Scheme
2 points awarded for each level % of completion for the player's army which are painted with at least 3 colors and shares a coherent scheme.
Special: 2 points for painted decal/markings.  2 more points awarded for extra themed doodads.

Conversion
2 points awarded for each level % of completion for the player's army which are converted beyond simple weapon swapping.
Special: 2 points for each large scale or complex model that is converted.

Technique
2 points awarded for each level % of completion for the player's army which had displayed advanced painting techniques.
Special: 2 points for each of the advanced painting technique displayed over majority of the army (NMM, lightning, blending, extreme details, well executed freehand works, etc.).

10 PP scored by fellow participants:

Each player is supposed to mark on his own scoresheet whether he is "Wow"ed by his opponent's army as far as painting and modeling are concerned.  Each "Wow" scored counts as 2 PP for the player.

Sportsmanship Points (SP) [50 max]

This reflects the player's overall performance in our gentleman sport of hobby gaming.  There are a total of 50 SP for each player to obtain during the tournament.

10 SP are scored by the TO and judges:

A player starts the tournament with 10 SP and will receive deduction due to (but not limited to) the followings: tardiness, excessive rules arguing. damage of hotel, event staff's or other participants' properties, disrespect towards hotel or event staff, etc..
40 SP are scored by fellow participants:

A player starts the tournament with 40 SP and will be modified depending on how many bad games the player had received by the end of the event.

One bad game = No Change
Two bad games = -5 SP
Three bad games = -10 SP
Four bad games = -20 SP
Five bad games = -40 SP

40K Team Challenge
$30.00 per individual

Event Format
- Each player is expected to construct an army list that is 1500 pts or less by the according 40,000 army codex.  Only 1 Force Organization Chart is allowed per list which limits the ally selection and fortification selection to 1 respectively.  (Tyranid players may have a single ally detachment chosen from the Tyranid codex for their army lists)  Each player is expected to have 4 army lists for the event, one to hand out to each of his opponents.

- The players will participate in a 4 round, 1 day Grand Tournament under a modified Swiss pairing.  Aside from the first round, the players will be matched based upon their team’s total battle points (BPs) where the highest BP holder will be paired to the next highest BP holder.

- Each team is formed by exactly 3 players.  Each player is taken a position title during team forming and their positional title as well as their list and/or army may not be switched throughout the event.  With the exception of the General positional title (effectively team captain), there is no special requirement for a player’s skill level as well as army composition for either positions (though some suggestion are made to accommodate better tournament experience).  The three title positions are:

[VAN] Vanguard – highly recommend putting your fastest playing player who wishes to finish all the turns in this slot.
[LOG] Logistics – highly recommend putting your more analytical player who doesn’t mind the game timing out on this slot.
[GEN] General – the most experienced and/or most skilled player on the team.
- Each round each of the team will match up in the following manner with no exceptions.

VAN vs VAN
LOG vs LOG
GEN vs GEN

TSHFT ranking will not be used in this event nor will any of the matches affect a player's TSHFT ranking.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Will Forge World (FW) models be allowed in the tournament?
As stated as a general miniature rule for the events, any Forge World models with the “40,000
approved” stamp on it will be allowed in the tournament. However, it will be the players’
responsibility to bring the proper publications with the said rules to the event.

I play Deamon of Chaos, may I use square base instead of round ones?
Even though the old deamon boxes were supplied with both square and round bases, please go
with the round bases if you have them. The universe is chaotic enough without bunching square
bases with round ones.

Just want make sure I understand how first blood works, the grammar used makes it slightly
unclear...
Well, here is the quick down low for it. Whoever destroys the first unit scores 1BP per the rules
stated in the main rule book. But if you want to get the additional 1BP, you must keep the unit
that scored first blood alive until the beginning of your next turn if you control it. Otherwise
your opponent will score the 1BP instead (by destroying that unit).

"Under Warlord’s Trait: Roll D6 then choose the table of traits available to the selected codex."
Maybe I am reading too much into this, but does this mean that I roll first and then choose the
table after, effectively giving a choice of three traits?
That assumption is correct. The reason for this slight variation is to compensate for the fact most codex don’t have their codex specific warlord’s trait yet.
